Every year Bonnie’s, in partnership with Liverpool Women’s Resource Centre and Liverpool Women’s Health Centre, sponsor an award in the Annual MIL-PRA AECG Art Exhibition
All submissions for this exhibition are from artists of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent living in NSW or ACT. This year, our award was renamed the Kate Nickolas Liverpool Women’s Services Award in honour and recognition of the amazing work done by Kate in the local community. The prize for our award is $500 and is awarded to female artists only.
The three services were excited to judge the entries and met at a secret time and location to view the entries. The quality of the submissions was high and the artwork amazing, by clearly very talented artists. It celebrated the diverse and proud culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in different ways, with different styles of art, incorporating tradition and cultural significance with visually stunning concepts.
On Saturday 17 September the winner was announced at the 25th Annual MIL-PRA AECG Art Exhibition Awards at Casula Powerhouse. The Kate Nickolas Liverpool Women’s Services Award went to Amala Groom for her piece titled The Invisibility of Blackness. Two staff members from Bonnie’s attended the awards and definitely cheered the loudest when Amala’s name was called.
Congratulations Amala!
