Over the last 4 weeks, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to coordinate an Aboriginal Art Workshop with local Aboriginal Artist Danielle Sullivan. The ‘painting group ‘ consisted of both clients and staff and we’ve all been working together for one common goal – to bring our undercover area to life. As it turned out though, making art together brought us so much more…
When the group first began there were many anxious bodies and faces. The most terrifying part was the lack of confidence in drawing and painting. In the end, it was amazing to see what can be created and achieved when a person is pushed out of their comfort zone.
This project not only pushed our creative ability. It provided a sense of community, a safe place to create art and a warm atmosphere to be a part of. It was surreal watching everyone forget their inhibitions and let go. There was such quietness in the air from all the concentration being put into the space.
As you walked around watching the painting come to life, you could sense the pride and see the joy on the faces of those involved. There were moments of humour, there was creative collaboration and even better…there was an amazing hot meal when we put down our brushes!
Next time you are at Bonnie’s I invite you to come and check out the amazing result of clients and staff collaborating together.
Thank you to MFS and PIMCO for funding and supporting this project.
