It never ceases to amaze me, the strength and perseverance of women who are set on achieving their goals.
I didn’t know what to expect when I started at Bonnie’s. However I did know that I wanted to help make things easier for our mothers and their children. It’s been inspiring to see the strength that pours out from mothers who are not only doing it tough but doing it single handed. I have always been a big supporter of working on client’s strengths, which is why it is great to work at a place like Bonnie Support Services. We advocate and empower women to take charge of their own lives and create their own freedom.
A little while back, I worked with a particular mother who went from having everything she ever wanted, to losing everything overnight. She also had a child who was physically unwell and no form of income to support them. It was at this time that she began to lose hope and feel helpless. I worked with her and reminded her of how far she had come and how strong she had been thus far. Together we worked on getting her payments up and running which then assisted her to get a place of her own. Speaking to her now, she feels a sense of stability again for herself and her daughter.
In a society that tries to convince women otherwise, we are helping women not only to reach their full potential but also to tap into their strength.
In the past I have worked with young women of refugee and migrant backgrounds; it was heart-warming to hear their dreams of what they wish to do and become. As people who work in the community and quite closely in people’s lives, we have the potential of having a great influence on a young woman’s life. So let’s be that role model who empowers others to become so much more. Living the life that she dreams of…
